Starting with a turn-of-the century farmhouse near downtown Mill Valley, the design developed from an interest in the dialogue between old and new, refined and raw. The open, loft-like interior spaces are linked together by the distinctive look and feel of the lightly refinished, reclaimed rock maple flooring from a sewing machine factory in Chicago.
The clients wanted the house to retain a uniquely large front play yard for their children so the house was kept compact with a vibrant front elevation, rather than sprawling outward.
